COLINTON GARDEN CLUB
NEWSLETTER NO 65 FEBRUARY 2004

Dear Fellow Gardeners,

With the last vestiges of Christmas packed away once again, I am reminded by the sight of snowdrops and crocuses in my borders that Spring is just around the corner.

It seems an eternity since I agreed to participate in our Xmas pantomime, but did not anticipate how nerve racking it would be. As you know we changed the date of our Party to accommodate other users of the Loan Hall and, as a result, many of you were unable to join us for an enjoyable evening of quizzes and carols, buffet and refreshments.

I must give credit to the writers of ‘Murder Most Floral’, Professor Ian Stewart, David Ferro and Isobel Lodge (who was also our Producer). The object of our plotting was a rare species of Lillium Colintoniensis.
The cast in order of appearance consisted of Alasdair Ferguson, cutting a dash as Miss Maple in tweed skirt, twin set and pearls; David Ferro emulating a colourful Padre Mildew; Isobel Lodge as the very eloquent Honey Fungus; me attempting to be a Vi N Weevil; Mitchell Mclean was a wonderfully droll ‘Wilt’; and John Lodge as a delightful Lady Bird. Our Music Director was Audrey Dobson and Maureen Heardman our Costume Designer. Elizabeth Ferro was Prompter and Stage Manager with Stage Assistants Mary Davey and Jo McEwan. Bill Sutherland provided the lighting effects and a video of our performance is now available to borrow at no extra charge!

Sadly Bill and Elaine have left Colinton and are now settled in their new home in Orkney where we all wish them well.

We anticipate many changes to our Committee in future as Ann, Yvonne and myself plan to step down and give others the opportunity to bring new ideas to our flourishing Club. We would welcome any willing volunteers to offer their services at future meetings and be prepared to join our Committee officially. In particular I would welcome the assistance of any technically proficient members to save me from further fumbling with our P.A. system!

In preparation for another summer of bountiful blooms we enclose the Spring Fertilizer Order Form. Please try to return your completed form on or before Monday 1st March. Until we meet again, may I wish you happy garden reading until the weather improves.

Best wishes

Pam Hume (Chairperson)
